During each center there is an opportunity for family interaction during Interactive Literacy Activity Time With Parents and Children Together. Families can choose from a variety of activities including reading a book together, doing an arts and craft project, large motor activities, or just playing together on the floor. The parents facilitate how the activity is done and the learning that takes place during each ILA activity. Twice a week the Family Educator has planned ILA time. The parent is given a developmentally appropriate activity for each individual child as well as materials to perform that ILA activity.

Other opportunities for ILA include Birth – 4 Child Development Playgroups, Motheread/ Fatheread Programs, and the Family And School Together (FAST) program. All these programs have time for parents and children to interact together and promote family unity.

We also offer other Special ILA times. Each month Even Start staff organizes a Family Fun Night in collaboration with other agencies such as Head Start, Public School, and the Family Resource Center. The public is welcome to attend. We have also organized family field trips to the Milwaukee County Public Museum, Milwaukee County Zoo, and area parks.
